Golap means rose, and this necklace is a small garden of them. Five flat terracotta stones are shaped by hand, fired, and painted in black and warm yellow: a round stone with a big open rose, a pebble with a flower and leaves, a larger centre pebble with a rose on its stem, one long yellow leaf traced with black veins, and a last pebble with a flower sprig. Small black beads sit between them, a knotted yellow thread ball finishes each end, and soft black threads carry it around the neck, so it rests close to the collarbone like a hasuli but stays light and flexible. The matching studs are round black terracotta, each painted with a single yellow rose. Handpicked from Santiniketan for Jhaapi, it is made for a yellow tant saree on pujo mornings, and looks just as good with a black kurta on an ordinary Friday.
