In Bengal a projapoti fluttering into the house is said to bring good news, often a wedding on the way. This one is shaped in clay, fired, then painted by hand: white stripes across the upper wings, rows of white dots on the lower wings, and a little body in the middle with a yellow head, two gold-ball antennae and a tiny red flower painted at its heart. The butterfly sits wide across the neckline, and on each side a black bead, a brown wooden bead and another black bead lead into a thick bundle of cotton threads. We handpicked this set from Santiniketan, where clay and colour are part of everyday life. Wear it with a tant or a handloom saree for pujo, or let it lift a plain kurta on any day you feel like flying a little.
