When the dhak starts on Shashthi evening, this is the necklace we reach for. A small barrel-shaped dhol, carved with a sunburst and fine ribbing, sits at the top, tied between two warm wooden beads. Below it blooms the chakra: a domed terracotta medallion carved with petals and swirls, ringed by ribbed teardrop drops, each finished with a little round bead, and a smaller carved disc at its foot. Every piece is shaped, carved and fired by hand in clay, then finished in a soft matte black. It comes with a pair of matching earrings, two carved discs stacked with round beads, so the whole look is ready. Handpicked from Santiniketan for Jhaapi, it is made for a red-white saree, a handloom kurta or anywhere you want your neckline to do the talking.
