Maa Mukh Terracotta Necklace Set

Every autumn, Bengal waits for Maa’s face. This set brings it close: a tiny maa mukh, the face of Durga, shaped in clay, fired and painted by hand, then mounted on a round of red handloom fabric and hung from many strands of soft cotton thread. A thread-wrapped bead sits between two small black beads just above the pendant. We handpicked this set from Santiniketan, where clay, cloth and colour have always travelled together. Wear it with a garad or a laal-paar saree for Ashtami, or with a plain kurta any day you want Maa near.

Pick your colour:

• Grey: a grey Durga face with a red forehead, white third eye and black hair, on a plain red handloom disc with fine white stripes; red thread-wrapped bead; black cotton threads with a black tassel
• Yellow: the classic golden-yellow Durga face with black hair, a red sindoor parting, third eye and red lips, on a red-and-white checked fabric disc; turquoise thread-wrapped bead; red cotton threads with a red tassel

• Material: hand-painted terracotta, handloom cotton fabric, cotton thread, glass beads
• Set includes: 1 necklace + 1 pair of earrings (round black terracotta drops with white daisy petals and a red centre, on silver-tone hooks); the earrings are the same in both colours
• Cord: multi-strand cotton thread, tied at the back, with a tassel end
