Hasuli Brass Necklace Set

Description

The hasuli, the collar that hugs the base of the neck, has been part of Bengal’s jewellery box for generations. This one is made the patient way: flat brass wire, hand-coiled into about thirty little open spirals, each linked to the next by hand into two staggered rows that curve along the collarbones like leaves on a vine. The brass band ends in neat thread-wrapped tubes and a twisted cord that ties at the back, so it sits exactly where you want it. It is a piece of Bengal brass-wire craft, handpicked by us from Santiniketan. Wear it with a tant saree for Ashtami anjali, a handloom kurta for a gallery evening, or a plain black dress when you want one bold, golden thing at the neck.

• Black: a black thread-wrapped cord, a collar that mixes round and square brass spirals, and square spiral earrings
